Gabriel Dandan

(1945 - 2016)

Gabriel lived and worked in Beirut. In his lifetime, he would visit his sister in Cyprus and exhibit his paintings in galleries across Paphos. Those visits were often reflected in his later work.

Gabriel spent his childhood in South Africa, later returning to Beirut to complete his studies.

Gabriel was self-taught. During his studying period, he exhibited work across Lebanon. This was a passion project, one that lived alongside his work in the US.

When Gabriel finally returned to Lebanon for good, he dedicated his daily existence to painting.

The diverse cultures he experienced in his travels are reflected in his imaginative and interpretative paintings. From streets to markets, moods of the sea to still lives, Gabriel created a wide variety of scenes.

Gabriel’s paintings exhibit figurative, impressionist and abstract qualities. He worked with an array of surfaces and materials including oil, acrylic, pastels and watercolour pencils.
